Dear 5849376, My name is Nancy Reynolds and I'm a Wal-Mart employee in Merritt Island, FL. To many, a 10 percent employee discount may not seem like a lot, but as Wal-Mart associates, we know it could mean the difference between putting food on the table and going hungry. I have diabetes, and the food I'm eligible to receive a discount on isn't good for me because the Wal-Mart employee discount doesn't cover most grocery items.1 I need to eat healthy food multiple times throughout the day and I simply can't afford it on Wal-Mart pay and hours. If Wal-Mart would extend its employee discount to cover all food items, it would help associates and our families across the country – and we know Wal-Mart can afford it. Wal-Mart must extend the employee discount to its struggling employees who need help paying for healthy food. That's why I started my own campaign on CREDOMobilize.com, which allows activists to start their own petitions. My petition, which is to Wal-Mart, says the following: Expand Wal-Mart's 10 percent employee discount to cover ALL food products. Tell Wal-Mart: Extend the employee discount to cover all food. Across the country, we are struggling to feed our families. As Wal-Mart associates, we work every day surrounded by groceries, but many of them are too expensive for us to actually buy. Wal-Mart could decide to alleviate some of our burden, by joining the ranks of Trader Joe's, Whole Foods,2 and Target3 in offering an employee discount across all food items. The current Wal-Mart discount covers most merchandise, but not bread, meat, eggs, and other basic groceries that Wal-Mart workers need. This is a win–win for the company. Wal-Mart is one of the only large grocers in the United States that does not have an across the board employee discount for food. A 10 percent discount would allow Wal-Mart associates to spend more money on food at Wal-Mart. The company would get more money, and we would be able to be healthier workers. With Thanksgiving just days away, we want to be able to celebrate with our families. A 10 percent discount on all food items could mean that Wal-Mart workers across the country won't be going hungry this holiday season. Will you join me and add your name to my petition urging Wal-Mart to extend its employee discount to all food? Thank you for your support.
