Dear 5849376,

Defend public safety in Iowa

A bill moving quickly through the Iowa Legislature would repeal the law that requires criminal background checks on all handgun sales. The bill, which has already passed the Iowa House, would have devastating consequences for public safety. When Missouri passed a similar bill, its gun murder rate jumped by 23%.1

Tell the Iowa Senate to stop SF 425, dangerous legislation that would destroy Iowa's background checks requirement.

Right now, Iowa requires criminal background checks for all handgun sales — but this bill would repeal that requirement altogether. If it passes, felons and domestic abusers would be able to arm themselves.

Background checks are the single most effective way to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people. Dismantling the existing system could have catastrophic consequences in Iowa.

Tell the Iowa Senate to stand up for public safety and block this reckless bill. Click the link below to sign the petition:

You can bet the NRA is turning up the heat. The more lawmakers hear from their constituents who want to save background checks for handgun sales, the better the chance to stop this dangerous bill from passing the Senate.

Thanks for everything you do.
