Victory: Wal-Mart workers get a raise

Dear 5849376,

Wal-Mart workers get a raise!

This is big news: Wal-Mart just announced that the company will be giving raises to about 500,000 of its hourly workers, nearly 40% of the entire company.1

As the nation's largest employer, this move by Wal-Mart could have a ripple effect across the entire retail industry, resulting in higher wages for hourly workers who are struggling to make ends meet.

The work of CREDO members helped make this victory possible. Since early 2013, CREDO activists, including current and former Wal-Mart employees, have launched petitions calling on Wal-Mart and its directors for higher wages, an end to the company's retaliatory actions, and more, resulting in nearly 600,000 signatures. They have also made thousands of phone calls and attended on the ground rallies in solidarity with those workers.

In addition, CREDO members have stepped up to support this fight by donating $50,332 to OUR Walmart which helps Wal-Mart workers organize and fight back for fair wages and humane working conditions.

But, the fight for higher wages and better working conditions at Wal-Mart is not over. While the announcement from Wal-Mart represents progress it still falls short of demands of workers, who have been fighting for access to full-time, consistent hours and respect for their hard work.

These campaigns on CREDO Mobilize targeting Wal-Mart prove how powerful grassroots organizing truly is. When progressive activists step up and fight for change on the issues we care about, we can make decision-makers listen.

We couldn't have done this without you. Thanks for everything you do to support worker's rights.
