Well, Bah Humbug, and Hello to the New Year from The Baffler!

Last week, we acknowledged Christmas by featuring Natasha Vargas-Cooper's meditation of ostentatious materialism, "The Acquisitive Self, Minus the Self." And this week we drank ourselves silly at New Year's while reading about William Giraldi's accidental descent into alcoholism during his paternity leave, in "This Brat's for You."

On the blog, we put together a guide to gift guides, those perennial lists of gewgaws and gadgets that magazines and newspapers use to try to lift readers' hopes and spirits while baiting the most lucrative advertisers.

And we do admit we got a little nostalgic about all that's gone on in Baffler land in 2014 while we were putting together our very own year-end best-of list. It features our favorite picks from the year among salvos, art, stories, poems, blog posts, and more. Do enjoy.

Onward!
