Hello there guys and ghouls, Thanks to all who came out to last night's release party in Cambridge to celebrate our new issue, "Sickness & Pelf." George Scialabba and Gary Greenwald were insightful as ever, and the evening turned into a bit of a group therapy session - in a lovely and supportive way. The new magazine features George's "The Endlessly Examined Life," which distills forty-five years of doctors' notes into a piece that's not quite a cohesive narrative, but that does tell a kind of story about mental healthcare in America. The Boston Globe this week called it "remarkable." Look for it in your (physical) mailboxes, and online, soon-ish. In the meantime, complement your spooky Halloween this evening by reading Ludmilla Petrushevskaya's short story from issue 25, "Among Friends." It features jealousy, secrets, cemeteries, blood, and a girl with a distendable eyeball. Read it by the light of a jack-o-lantern. -The Booooffler |
