Dear 5849376, While I struggle to keep my family's lights on and our rent paid, one family has made a killing off of Walmart. Sam Walton's heirs have become the 1% of the 1% by using Walmart as a family ATM. They're worth over $144 billion, and they rake in billions more each year. And whether you're a Walmart worker like me making less in a year than the Waltons make in a minute, a taxpayer forking over big subsidies and tax breaks, or an ordinary investor in Walmart, that wealth is coming at our expense. That's why I joined other moms, and families from across the country, and went on strike last week. Join us by signing my petition on CREDOMobilize.com to the Walton Family, which says the following: I urge you to respect the wishes of your workers by replacing Rob Walton with an independent board chair. Tell the Waltons: Rob Walton must step aside as the chair of Walmart's board. It's time for real accountability at Walmart – it's time for an independent chair of the company's board. As long as the Waltons control the company's board, they can silence anyone who doesn't think Walmart's first responsibility is to make them richer. When Walmart employees like me have dared to speak up about this in the past, Walmart has responded by retaliating against us. But, we are not going to back down. When Walmart held its annual shareholders' meeting in Bentonville, Arkansas last Friday, worker-shareholders like me proposed a measure to replace Rob Walton. Other striking moms and I also visited Rob's house to call for an end to retaliation against workers and push for his resignation. We took a big risk in directly challenging our boss, so we need to show the Walton family that the community is standing with us. Add your voice to say it's time for the Waltons to act responsibly, and replace Rob Walton with an independent board chair. Will you join me and add your name to my petition demanding the resignation of Rob Walton as chair of the Walmart board? Thank you for your support. Linda Haluska |
