Dear 5849376, When I'm buying food at Hy-Vee, I'd like to be able to make healthy, informed, and responsible choices. Last year, Whole Foods announced that it will label all of its store products with GMOs by 2018. But Whole Foods grocery stores aren't available to many Iowans, and Hy-Vee hasn't yet announced plans to label GMOs at all. That's why I started my own campaign on CREDOMobilize.com, which allows activists to start their own petitions. My petition, which is to Hy-Vee CEO Randy Edeker, says the following: Consumers have a right to make healthy, responsible, and informed choices about the food we eat. Yet it is usually impossible to know whether our food contains GMOs. Hy-Vee should take the lead here in Iowa and start labeling store brand products that contain GMOs so that we can decide for ourselves whether or not we want to eat these potentially harmful products. Tell Hy-Vee CEO Randy Edeker: Label products that contain genetically modified organisms in your stores. While more research needs to be done to understand the full impact of GMOs, they are not without risk. For example, some GMOs are designed to allow for increased use of pesticides, which have been linked to serious health and environmental impacts. And GMOs rarely undergo independent safety testing before they're allowed onto the market. We need Hy-Vee to follow the example set by Whole Foods and take the lead in Iowa by providing its customers with GMO labeling in neighborhood stores across the state. If we want Hy-Vee to do the right thing, we need to make sure that it hears our call for GMO labeling loud and clear. Please sign the petition to Hy-Vee today. Will you join me and add your name to my petition urging Hy-Vee to label GMOs in its stores? Thank you for your support. Sonia Ashe |
