The email below is from Lynn Pierle, a CREDO activist in Port Townsend, Washington. Lynn started a petition on CREDO Mobilize, where activists can launch their own campaigns for progressive change. Tell Coca-Cola: Stop fighting GMO labeling.

Dear 5849376,

Coca-Cola is an international behemoth that sells its more than 500 brands in 200 countries across the globe – but it doesn't want people to know that it uses genetically modified foods in its products. In recent elections it has spent millions of dollars to defeat initiatives that would have required genetically modified foods to be labeled.

People should have the right to know what's in the food they're eating and the drinks they're drinking, but Coca-Cola is trying to take that right away and keep us in the dark.

That's why I started my own campaign on, which allows activists to start their own petitions. My petition, which is to Coca-Cola Chairman and CEO Muhtar Kent, says the following:

People have the right to know what they're putting in their bodies. Stop fighting grassroots and legislative efforts to require the labeling of foods that contain genetically modified organisms.

Sign the petition: Tell the Coca-Cola Company to stop fighting GMO-labeling efforts.

Genetically modified organisms are showing up in more and more of the food and drinks on our grocery store shelves, but adequate testing hasn't yet been done and we still don't know whether they're safe to consume. Implementing mandatory GMO-labeling policies would assure full transparency and let us make informed decisions about what to put in our bodies and feed our children.

I would like to eat organic all of the time, but I can't because I'm a retiree on a fixed income. I have to make choices about what's on my grocery list -- and, even if I can't choose organic all of the time, I should still be able to choose to avoid GMOs.

Sadly, it isn't just Coca-Cola we have to worry about. The Coca-Cola Company also owns "healthy" brands like Vitamin Water, Odwalla and Honest Tea – and it could be trying to hide genetically modified ingredients in those products as well. Without labeling, we simply don't know.

With a massive outcry of public opposition, we can show the Coca-Cola Company that fighting grassroots efforts to label foods that contain genetically modified organisms is bad for business.

Will you join me and add your name to my petition to the Coca-Cola Company to demand it stop trying to keep Americans in the dark about what's in our food and drinks?

Thank you for your support.

Lynn Pierle
