Dear 5849376, Anita Dunn gained enormous influence and access to the Obama White House as a top strategist who helped get the president elected in 2008, partially on his commitment to action on climate. Now she's cashing in on that close relationship by working on behalf of TransCanada to push for approval of the "game over for the climate" Keystone XL tar sands pipeline.1 It's a betrayal of the commitments that so many of us worked so hard for, and that Dunn herself played a huge role in shaping as top strategist on the 2008 campaign and communications director in the White House. We need to call out her unprincipled and hypocritical work trying to force approval of Keystone XL. Tell Anita Dunn: Drop TransCanada as a client, and stop promoting Keystone XL! She claims the work for TransCanada by her consulting firm, SKDKnickerbocker, is strictly limited to PR -- like the xenophobic and misleading ad the firm produced and launched last week.2 But the truth is that Dunn maintains close ties with the president – she's visited the White House over 110 times since leaving her job there,3 including at least a dozen times already this year. With insider access like that, you can bet TransCanada isn't just paying SKDK and Dunn for ad production. Tell Anita Dunn: Drop TransCanada as a client of your firm, SKDKnickerbocker, and stop using your relationship with President Obama to undermine the very principles he committed to in his campaign. Click here to automatically sign the petition. For me, this is deeply personal. Like Dunn, I worked in the Obama campaign's Chicago headquarters in 2008. And I'm proud to be among the more than 150 Obama campaign staffers now working to get President Obama to reject Keystone XL – precisely because approving it would deeply undermine the commitments he made then, which so inspired so many of us.4 Dunn's work for TransCanada isn't just an affront to President Obama's commitments. It's an affront to all of Dunn's fellow Obama campaign staffers, and the millions more people who were inspired to get involved precisely because of those commitments. We all make choices about what and who we work for. And if Dunn wants to sell her insider access to a foreign corporation working for "game over for the climate" and against the principles that helped get her that access in the first place – she needs to understand that she will be held accountable for those choices.
