We won on emergency contraception

CREDO action

Dear 5849376,

Victory on emergency contraception.

Incredible and surprising news about emergency contraception: The Obama administration has dropped its resistance to allowing the morning-after birth control pill to be made available over the counter to all women, including young women.1

The administration's overruling of the FDA scientists' recommendation to approve this pill for use by women of all ages was mystifying. The hormones in emergency contraceptives have been taken by millions of women for decades and have been proven safe and effective.

But now, Plan B One-Step is expected to be approved by the FDA in the near future, and will be sold over the counter with no age restrictions.

This victory wouldn't have been possible without grassroots pressure from activists like you. Over 67,000 CREDO activists told Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius to stop obstructing the FDA's approval of emergency contraception for over-the-counter use.

Thanks for your activism – it makes a difference.
