Here's a sample message to send to your friends:
Subject: You'll never believe what Sen. McCain just said about guns
Dear Friend,At a recent town hall, the mother of a victim of the Aurora, Colorado movie theater shooting asked Senator John McCain to help ban assault weapons. Here's how Talking Points Memo reported the exchange:
----
"My 24-year-old son, Alex, was murdered in a movie theater in Aurora, Colo.," Caren Teves said. "These assault rifles allow the shooter to fire many rounds without having to reload. These weapons to do not belong on our streets."
"I can tell you right now you need some straight talk. That assault weapons ban will not pass the Congress of the United States," McCain responded. The video, posted Thursday by Phoenix's KTVK, showed the line drawing applause and cheers from the crowd.
-----
We have some straight talk for Sen. McCain and for the people who cheered his cynical remarks. The majority of Americans support a ban on semi-automatic military-style assault weapons. And that ban can pass if Senators like John McCain would vote for it.
