Guess what? Sen. Merkley wanted to thank you.

As much as leadership within the Senate matters, we're not going to fix the filibuster without the involvement of grassroots activists across the country. Both an inside and an outside strategy are important.

Sen. Merkley recognizes this, and after we had prepared this thank you petition to him and Sen. Udall, a staffer for Sen. Merkley informed us that he had recorded a brief thank you video for the CREDO activists who were part of this fight.

You can see the video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dGTBCsVn7Y

Be sure to watch the video. But after you watch it, please help us spread the word about the thank you petition to the senators.

Here are some ways you can help.

You can also send the following e-mail to your friends and family. Spreading the word is critical, but please only pass this message along to those who know you -- spam hurts our campaign.

Thanks for all you do.

Subject: Thank Sens. Jeff Merkley and Tom Udall for showing real leadership in the fight to fix the filibuster.

Dear Friend,

On Thursday, as we faced our only chance until 2015 to fix the filibuster, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid didn't act boldly. Instead, he consigned the Senate to two more years of gridlock.

Rather than pushing for real reform, Sen. Reid agreed to a compromised bait-and-switch deal that he and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell may call "filibuster reform," but which we know will do next to nothing to actually fix the filibuster.

This is now the second time in a row Sen. Reid has sold out his fellow Democrats by striking a bad deal with Sen. McConnell instead of pushing for strong filibuster reform.

Still, this time around there was noticeably more momentum behind filibuster reform, and significantly more buy-in from the Senate Democratic caucus about the need for real reform. ABut it would not have been possible without the work of Senators Jeff Merkley and Tom Udall.

I just signed a petition thanking Sens. Jeff Merkley and Tom Udall for showing real leadership in the fight to fix the filibuster.

I hope you do, too.
