The Transsexual Empire: The Making of the She-Male Posted: 04 Aug 2012 08:22 AM PDT
The Transsexual Empire: The Making of the She-Male by Janice Raymond (Amazon) In the world of fringe gender politics no feud is more hotly contested than the one between radical feminists and male to female transexuals. The issue at stake is the feminine status of the latter group, which is generally opposed by the former. Unlike mainstream feminists, many of whom support the preferred gender expression of non-binary identifying individuals, most radical feminists see female to male transexuals as traitors, and male to female transexuals as invaders from the archival male sex. Transexual Empire is the surprisingly earnest pointed finger at the institution of transsexualism, which controversial author Janice Raymond characterizes as a symbolic “rape”. The irony in the book’s title is that male to male transexuals—also known as transwomen—are widely regarded as facing the most discrimination and violence of any group within the LGBT community. |
