Dear Friend, President Obama is putting cuts to vital safety net programs on the table in debt ceiling negotiations. But the leaders of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Reps. Raul Grijalva and Keith Ellison, have boldly stepped out to protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid Now, they need our help. Can you call Rep. Boswell and tell him to co-sign the Congressional Progressive Caucus letter to take cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid off the table? Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has been an outspoken advocate for taking benefit cuts to these programs off the table in debt ceiling negotiations. So now Reps. Grijalva and Ellison are circulating an emergency sign-on letter to Leader Pelosi strongly agreeing with her position. Democrats who co-sign the letter are not only strengthening Pelosi's hand at the negotiating table by supporting her directly, they're also sending a signal to the White House not to take their votes for granted. That's an important message only House Democrats can deliver to the president. And we need to make sure that they speak out as quickly and as loudly as possible to stop a bad deal before it's finalized. As of this morning, 69 Democrats had already co-signed the letter — but not Rep. Boswell. Thank you for speaking out. Matt Lockshin, Campaign Manager P.S. Here is the text of the letter:
