Take action now!

Dear Friend,

In the past few weeks, you and more than 60,000 other CREDO activists signed a petition to Arch Coal CEO Steven Leer urging him to reconsider his company's plans to mine for coal directly underneath Buckhannon-Upshur High School in West Virginia. The response was overwhelming, and I wanted to personally thank you for signing the petition and spreading the word.

We need to directly pressure Arch Coal to abandon this reckless plan. Can you call the company now so they know we're paying attention and won't allow them to quietly go ahead with a coal mine under a high school?

Please call Arch Coal now and tell CEO Steven Leer that mining for coal underneath a high school is totally unacceptable. Click here for an easy script and number to call.

Last week, we delivered the petition signatures to CEO Steven Leer. Arch Coal hasn't yet responded, but a spokesman for the company did tell the Huffington Post that their "top priority will always be ensuring the safety of everyone involved — both inside and outside the mine."1

If that is truly the case, they should immediately abandon their plans to mine underneath Buckhannon-Upshur High School.

If Arch Coal moves forward with this proposed mine, children will be vulnerable to dangerous methane leaks and potentially deadly explosions. Endangering children in order to mine coal is both reckless and greedy. Frankly, I'm shocked that Arch Coal thought it could get away with this.

But if activists like you pick up the phone and make your voice heard, perhaps Arch Coal will realize that their plan is a big mistake and reconsider. I hope you'll join us in telling Arch Coal to abandon its reckless and dangerous plans to mine underneath Buckhannon-Upshur High School.

Thanks for speaking out against Arch Coal's reckless plans to mine underneath a high school.
