Secretary Salazar told the Supreme Court to dump the Joshua Tree garbage dump!
Dear Friend, Great news for Joshua Tree! Thanks to you, and the more than 95,000 citizens who signed our petition asking Secretary Salazar to protect Joshua Tree from the Eagle Mountain landfill, the Department of Interior has reversed their position of more than two decades, and opposed developer Kaiser Venture's petition to the U.S. Supreme Court. This decision substantially weakens the developer's case, and will hopefully persuade the Supreme Court to reject the case — leaving in place the lower court rulings that block the proposal to put the nation's largest landfill next-door to Joshua Tree. Your pressure played a huge role in making this possible. I wanted to pass on this note I received from Donna and Larry Charpied, who led the fight against the Eagle Mountain landfill, literally buying a book in 1992 to learn how take the developers to court. When we make our voices heard, it can make a tremendous difference. Thanks again for helping to protect one of our nation's most special places. Elijah Zarlin, Campaign Manager |
